At BrandSafway, we know our employees are our greatest asset, which is why we give them the tools, training and resources to be successful. We are looking for an Indigenous Relations Manager to join our team and lead our efforts in building and maintaining meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities in Eastern Canada. Join our Eastern Canada Senior Management in efforts to support growth with new Customers and entry into new markets.  This role will play a crucial part in our commitment to supporting Indigenous businesses, enhancing community engagement, and promoting cultural awareness within our organization.


Responsibilities

Strategic Development and Alignment:

  • Jointly align and develop strategies for Indigenous Relations to support company goals.
  • Steer the Eastern Canada Indigenous Relations Committee to ensure cohesive strategy implementation.
  • Participate in parent company programs to ensure alignment with broader corporate objectives.

Community Engagement and Support:

  • Liaise with supply chain and other functions to foster relationships with Indigenous Business Suppliers and Partners.
  • Participate in and support community events and programs that benefit Indigenous communities.
  • Identify and facilitate introductions to local Indigenous groups to foster strong, mutually beneficial relationships.
  • Research and set goals to achieve employment targets for Indigenous, women, and minorities, ensuring alignment with strategic plans.

Awareness and Education:

  • Lead and deliver Indigenous awareness and communication programs to educate staff about local heritage and culture.
  • Develop and conduct information sessions and periodic communication sessions for staff education.
  • Identify and invite speakers from Indigenous communities to share their heritage and culture with staff.
  • Mentor the leadership team and support training programs to enhance understanding and engagement with Indigenous issues.

Mentorship and Employment:

  • Set, mentor, and improve goals for Indigenous employment within the company.
  • Work with branch and site teams to develop and maintain mentorship programs between cultural and community employees.
  • Collaborate with HR and branch teams to develop and implement programs aimed at attracting, recruiting, and retaining Indigenous, women, and minority employees.

Program Coordination and Reporting:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business’s (CCAB) Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program, maintaining progress against goals and milestones.
  • Coordinate efforts and participation in community and outreach programs, ensuring alignment and support with our partners.
  • Represent AlumaSafway in community efforts and events, acting as a liaison with customer Indigenous representatives to align and communicate regularly.
  • Report and communicate ongoing efforts to senior management, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Economic Relationships and Partnerships:

  • Participate in forming mutually beneficial economic relationships with Indigenous groups, maintaining objectives and alignment with partnership goals.
  • Coordinate with the supply chain to develop relationships and increase spending with Indigenous or minority-owned companies.

Qualifications
  • Proven experience in Indigenous Relations, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Post-secondary education and/or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, communities, and business practices in Eastern Canada.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external partners.
  • Experience in developing and implementing training and mentorship programs.
  • Familiarity with CCAB’s Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program is an asset.
