This position is responsible for providing support to the division EHS manager, operations team, yard and field supervisors and other safety personnel (including safety committees) in preventing accidents and incidents and minimizing the financial and human impact of these events.  In addition, the position is responsible to provide support in implementing health, safety, and environmental management policies and procedures at the local branch level.

Responsibilities
  • Regularly inspect the work activities at branch yard, warehouses and office maintain a strong safety presence.  Help implement and enforce the use of safe work practices and procedures as described in the company safety manuals. 
  • Evaluate the branch to ensure safety management systems are in place and they are complying with legal requirements and company policies and procedures (i.e. Perform audits on JSP, the company S.O.S and E.I.S program, and Daily Toolbox Talks, compliance under the Gold Link Safety Recognition program, Work Instruction development and training).
  • Coach employees on working safely. Intervein when unsafe conditions or behaviours are observed. Following company ‘Life Saving Rules’.
  • Conduct in-person H/S required training programs for yard, warehouse and office staff.
  • Maintain clear and concise records of all health and safety related training activities, records of training and certifications.
  • Investigate health and safety accidents/incidents/situations to accurately determine the sequence of events and determine root causes.  Help supervisors prepare proper documentation in accordance with company and legal requirements.  Help ensure that accidents/trends/issues/costs are reported to the proper AlumaSafway authorities as required.
  • Handle injured worker claims management activities. Analyze and take action on injured worker claims to help manage claims costs, return injured workers to light/full duties.
  • Liaise with internal company departments and external/government agencies as required (e.g. Workers’ Compensation Boards, OH&S/MOL, Construction Safety Associations, SIA, etc.).
  • Conduct the annual fire and emergency plan with the Operations Manager and Yard Supervisors.
  • Lead the monthly JHSC Committee meeting, keep up to date records, and take the lead on corrective actions required.
  • Maintain and review the Hazard Analysis Tool (HAT) for the local branch.
 
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a safety professional in general industry, construction or manufacturing.
  • Extensive up-to-date safety credentials is desirable. 
  • Good working knowledge of project management techniques and principles.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to multi-task in a multiple project environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills essential to effectively communicate with branch and field personnel, as well as external customers and suppliers.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Projects, Excel, and Word software a definite asset.
  • We require communication in English due to our multiple offices located outside Quebec.
